Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer will never be subscription based, according to its creators.
Yesterday, a video appeared online showing subscription options for the title that were unlocked through the use of Microsoft Points over Xbox Live.
Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling said that the footage was not fake but was an "error" with the Marketplace guide, and there are no plans to charge extra fees to play the shooter.
"There is not, and will never be, additional fees required to subscribe and play Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer," he said.
A spokesperson for Activision reiterated the statement, telling DS: "Reports of a subscription membership in Modern Warfare 2 are not true. Activision has no plans to charge gamers to play Call Of Duty multiplayer."
Treyarch's community manager Josh Olin also confirmed that users will not have to pay for Black Ops multiplayer when it releases later this year.
Last month, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said that he would want to make the franchise pay-to-play.
